Review Policy & Ratings

If you are an author or publisher who would like me to read and review a book, please make sure that you read the following before contacting me:

I am rather eclectic when it comes to my reading choices and will read pretty much anything that looks interesting to me.  I especially enjoy mystery, steampunk, science fiction, horror, adventure, historical fiction, and fantasy.  (If you're not sure, email me anyways.  You never know what I'll say yes to. :D)

I will not read erotica and prefer, if I am going to read a romance book, that it is an adventure story of some sort with romance on the side, and that it doesn't have very explicit sex scenes.  (I have found that I really enjoy historical romances.)

I ask that you give me at least a month to ready your book.   I cannot, however, guarantee that it will be done in that time frame.  If you need it in a specific time frame, please let me know and I will see what I can do.

I want to let you know here that I cannot guarantee a review of your book, nor can I guarantee that it will be a positive one.  I believe in being 100% honest about what it is that I am reading and my review will reflect this.  I have a hard time DNF-ing ("Did Not Finish") a book, but if I choose to do so with your book, I will inform you via email and then write a non-rated review of the book to let readers know why I chose to do so.

I am open to self-published and Indie authors.  I am willing to read ARCs and finished copies, as well as do beta reads.  Because of how much physical books and shipping are, I ask that you send me your book as an e-book (preferring .mobi or .epub format).

Feel free to email me at
In your email, please include the following:

1. Your name and the links to your blog/website and Amazon page.
2. The title, genre and page length of the piece you wish reviewed.
3. What kind of feedback you are looking for.
4. The timeline you're looking at.

I do participate in author interviews and cover reveals.  I ask that you give me plenty of notice and that you have all the materials I need to write the post sent to me at least 3 days before you want the post.

I also accept guest posts.  If you are interested in participating, please email me so that we can discuss it further.

(I reserve the right to choose not to review a book.  Please note, if you give me a copy of your book in exchange for a review, it will be a completely honest review.)

My rating system

I've tried doing the whole "rating" thing here on The Gal and, honestly, it just doesn't work for me.  I'm horrible at this star thing because, as one author has said to me, I'm too nice (and he removes one star from every rating I choose).
I chose to include my rating system here so that you can see how my brain works, especially since I know a lot of you also follow me on Goodreads and BookLikes ... and have read my reviews on Amazon.

5 stars = I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT!  You HAVE to read this book.  Pretty damn close to perfection.  It evoked emotions, tears, laughter.  It haunted me after I put it down.  It spoke to me.  It is definitely one that I will reread somewhere in the future.  Recommend, but get your own.

4 stars = I really liked it.  Not quite, but pretty damn close to perfect.  Enjoyable, but minor imperfections.  A page turner.  Hard to put down.  Memorable.  Recommend - here, take mine.

3 stars = I'm on the fence.  This one could go either way.  It's alright but has obvious imperfections.  Don't love it, don't hate it.  A satisfying read but room for improvement.  Enjoyed it on some levels, but probably won't read it again.  Might be for sale at the garage sale.  (This is my neutral.)

2 stars = Seriously?!  Really?!  What were you thinking?  Not a complete waste of time, but watch out for imperfections.  Something is missing.  Hard to hold my attention.  Confusing, weak plot or hero or heroine.  Help yourself to a free book.

1 star = WTF just happened?  Is this a joke?  I want my time/money back, now.  Inexcusable imperfections!  One or two things held my attention enough to turn the page.  Room for a great deal of improvement.  You don't want to know what I will do with this book.

Unrated = I did not finish it.  Just could not make myself do it.  Had to force myself to pick it up again.  Too many things wrong with it, most likely a lack of editing that makes it impossible to get through.  (Can also choose to not rate it if I feel the person that asked me to read it gave me misinformation.)

I didn't see mystery on your list. Mine has astrology in it. Interested?
